Dr. David Kannar

Dr. David Kannar is Founder and Chairman of Nutrition Innovation Group who recently launched a range of less refined raw sugars and sugar products. The company has been recognized as one of the World’s best start-ups in 2018, best technologies for significant added sugar reduction in 2019 and most recently receiving the Singaporean Government Slingshot, Danone Nutrition Research and Yield Lab awards for best 2019 food technology innovation.

David has worked as Associate Professor at Monash University, Faculty of Medicine, Practice Professor in the Food and Agriculture Initiative and clinical R&D at the Peninsula Heart Centre, Victoria, Australia. Since graduating David has worked in the food and pharmaceutical industries in Asia, Australia, France, North and South America which included cocoa research and awarded new chocolate product developments. He is one of Australia’s largest individual patent holders and leading innovators recognized by Australian Government and CSIRO Innovation Awards. He however cites his most important achievement as having 4 wonderful children and 5 gorgeous grandchildren with his wife Sally.

Francesca Kleemans

Francesca Kleemans has worked in cocoa and chocolate for the past 19 years. Her experience stems from sales, strategy, market research, risk management and procurement. In her last role with Cargill, Francesca was the Global Director for the cocoa product lines and was responsible for driving global growth through optimizing capabilities and generating synergies for customers.

At present, Francesca is the Managing Director for Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate Asia Pacific. She plays a pivotal role in creating differentiated value to help Asian customers respond to consumer trends and market demands. Known for her play-to-win mindset, Francesca has plans to expand the Asian sustainable footprint. Building on a foundation of uncompromising high quality cocoa products, she believes that innovation and digitalisation pave the way for continued growth and the future of cocoa and chocolate in Asia.

Francesca has just relocated to Singapore with her husband and three children. Together, they are enjoying Singapore’s melting pot of people and food flavours. Originally from Italy, Francesca’s favorite way of recharging her energies is to bask in the beauty of an art-filled piazza while sipping on a hot cocoa drink.

Janice Wong

Chef Janice Wong’s never-ending passion for culinary art has propelled her forward to test the limits of dessert making. The native Singaporean has learned from some of the world’s best chefs, including US luminaries Thomas Keller and Grant Achatz, virtuoso Spanish chocolatier Oriol Balaguer, and prodigious French pastry chef Pierre Hermé. An undisputed favourite among sweet-toothed Singaporeans, her dessert restaurant 2am:dessertbar has recently celebrated their twelfth-year anniversary, redefining the dessert experience and pushing the boundaries between sweet and savoury with carefully researched progressive dishes.

In November 2014 she launched her eponymous sweet concept, JANICE WONG, and recently launched her new concession stand at the world-renowned Harrods department store in London in 2018. Chef Janice has received worldwide recognition for her cutting edge creations and is a regular on the global pop-up circuit. Notable global collaborations include Janice Wong in Paradise City Seoul and Busan, Wonderbox in Seoul, and Janice Wong’s first solo exhibition in Huis Ten Bosch Nagasaki featuring her signature edible art works.

She has been named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef; for the second year running by the prestigious San Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best for 2013 & 2014. Janice Wong also won the title of Pastry Chef of the Year from the World Gourmet Summit Awards in 2011, 2013 and 2015, including the title of Young Woman of the Year from Her World in 2012.

Alister Haigh

Alister Haigh is the Chief Executive of Haigh’s Chocolates, Australia’s oldest chocolate retailer and one of only a handful worldwide making premium chocolates from raw cocoa beans that are sold in their own retail stores.  Haigh’s is also the largest importer of cocoa beans into Australia.

Alister is the fourth generation to work in this family owned and run business based in Adelaide, South Australia which celebrated its centenary in 2015.  After progressing from factory floor to various management roles over an 11 year period, Alister was appointed General Manager of the Haigh’s group in 1984.  Six years later Alister was appointed Joint Managing Director with his brother Simon and in 1997 became CEO.  Since then, Haigh’s has more than quadrupled in size and now has 21 retail stores across Australia in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and online.

A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Alister is a committee member of the Australian Industry Group (SA Branch) and was previously on the board of Service Skills SA representing the retail industry.  For more than 20 years Alister has been a committee member of Family Business Australia (SA), was previously on the National Board and in 2018 was awarded life membership.

In addition, Alister is a member of The Executive Connection (an organisation for CEOs), and a longstanding supporter of Variety SA, the Children’s Charity.  He is an Ambassador to the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and also supports other selected organisations and charities.  Until recently Alister was co-chair of the Heritage Appeal for Australia’s renowned landscape painter Hans Heysen and was instrumental in raising millions of dollars to purchase his historic property, all of its contents and artworks and to help build an iconic art gallery in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills.

Jeremy Nguee

As a prominent chef and culinary consultant in Singapore, Jeremy is a keen evangelist of Singaporean cuisine in both her modern and traditional guises. As an industry practitioner, his inventive approach to Asian cuisine has taken him globally from Russia to Indonesia. He is also a familiar face and has been featured in international media such as CNN Travel as well as in local television, broadsheet and magazine print.

He is the chef-owner of award-winning gourmet caterer Preparazzi, creator of Batu Lesung Spice Company and co-founder of MRS KUEH.  He has played culinary consultant to major F&B groups and continues to create platforms and programs to support the growth and development of Asian food in Singapore and across the region.
